Interesting look at Gamifying Education

This video by Extra Credits looks at how gaming techniques could be applied to education to encourage students to participate learn and progress. Watching this video a few key points where highlighted for me:

Games teach us that different choices have different outcomes of which it is the decisions we can control ourselves. This like many others is a key instructional design of games as it adds an element of trial and error and replayability which entices learners to try multiple routes in order to achieve one goal.

Turn your grading system from ABC to Levels 123. Adapting your grading levels to make them more game like could encourage healthy competition between students resulting in a willingness to achieve more (a higher level) and in conjunction seeing a student’s peers progress to the next level encourages other students to progress as well.
