The seven facets of leadership pt2: Creativity and pt3: Positive intolerance

Parts 2 and 3 of Spencer Holmes’ 7 facets of leadership are now available on training zone as we take another trip into ‘projectland’.

Spencer uses the first of these articles to review how creativity is often de-prioritised within the process of project management and discusses the benefits that a revival of the creative process may bring.

“…a good project leader should certainly value and work to develop their creative side. Indeed, isn’t the whole point of projects about “finding new solutions to old problems” or new problems?”

Part 3 focuses on positive intolerance: the extent to which the individual is able to sacrifice popular decisions to accomplish goals.

“We work in many organisations where people would be described as ‘accommodating’ and the preference is to avoid conflict, even when it’s blatantly obvious something different needs to be done.

Spencer uses the recent film Invictus to provide examples of how Nelson Mandella put good of the goal above his own person popularity before ending with some useful tips on how to your own positive intolerance.
